Spring Into Celebration 2025

Clarion | Thursday, May 8, 2025

Arriving just in time for Mother's Day, we've forged a new questline that may or may not be thematically appropriate. If you head on over to Battleon and enter Yulgar's Inn, you'll find him in need of assistance. Yulgar intends to surprise Aria with "something nice".  I've been asked not to share too many details as there would be spoilers, but rest assured, a unique reward awaits you at the end of the dangerous task. Of course, with this new questline comes the returning Spring flowers drops. Monsters all over Lore will start dropping flowers you can decorate your house with, so if you wanna populate your cozy little home with colorful flowers, now's your chance!

Blue-Eyed Soul Dragon Heroic Essence

Many of you might remember a few months back, we released the Blue-Eyed Soul Dragon as a free-to-play early game Travel Form. When we showed it off, we also teased some variants of it, including armored and ghostly versions. As of today, the Blue-Eyed Soul Dragon variants will be entering the game as the first reward for the generic Heroic Essence earned by killing any of the current end-game level 50 bosses.  Go speak to Sir Arthur Lanceler when you've obtained enough Heroic Essence to purchase one of the pets or Travel Forms. Like the upcoming Armor, these are intended as long-term rewards that you earn over time just by playing the game to add multiple layers of rewards to content. Take it at your own pace.

Treasure Chest Rewards Bonus Guardians

We're working on a new feature for Treasure Chest rewards, having a bonus functionality for Guardians. Starting with the Void Scythe, we plan on all weapons coming with a House Item Display item for the weapon. Over time, we want to automate this, but in the meantime, head to Battleon Trade District and talk to the new NPC named "Guardian Golem Gift Distributer" with the Void Star Scythe in your inventory and claim your display weapon. Additionally, we'd like to eventually retroactively add the is to all the old weapons too.

Moglin Magic

Behind the scenes, we've been hard at work on the massive relaunch of AdventureQuest 3D's main story, with that comes new tech to bring you guys a more fleshed-out world! I'd like to share with you a new dev feature Xero is working on... MOGLINS CUSTOMIZATION! With this, we will be able to make Moglin NPCs with more diverse appearances. From being able to change their colors quickly all the way to being able to dress 'em' up with Moglin (and some human) attire! Beyond being able to equip moglins as if they were human NPCs, our creature creator, Astra, has been working on revamping the moglin models to be more in line with the quality of Kajit from Mossmere. Here's a heavy work in progress of... a possibly cursed-looking image of a moglin wearing pants.

And a little sneak peek at the updated look of our small fuzzy friends

Update on critters

Beyond moglins, Astra has been working hard to help Lore feel more alive than ever by creating critters to populate the world. Think bunnies and bears and all sorts of wildlife that just exist in the world. The first step forward for that goal was making new cats and dogs for the intro, which had been teased some time ago, but now they're in-game and movin' around. We're not stopping there, though. Over time, we want to fill our maps with more wildlife to help Lore truly come to life.

Improving The Little Things

So, I'll be honest... I don't really expect many people to care about this, but I really wanted to mention it because, as someone who builds the quests you guys play through, this has been a massive source of annoyance for me.

I'm sure you guys know of the tools that Spider built for AdventureQuest 3D that allowed us to edit spawns within the game without having to edit map files. It's been a total lifesaver and really cut down the number of people that are required for setting up quest. This has been massively helpful in streamlining development on the project. Beyond just placing NPCs, it allows us to place requirements on the NPC, like when they can appear. This is great, obviously. We've used this requirement function to basically move NPCs around depending on what stage you are in a questline (internally we refer to these as quest strings. Your quest string value determines the quest you are on in the string. 0 being the first quest, and it goes up sequentially as you finish each quest). We'd "move" NPCs by having multiple spawn pads where the NPC appears, with different requirements on when they appear. So let's say they appear on spawn pad 1 if the player's quest string value is less than 5. Then, spawnpad 2 has the requirement of it appearing on 5 and above.  This worked, but it caused an issue with the APOP panel (Apops are the menu/text you guys see when you talk to an NPC). You see, the APOP would stay open once an NPC moved because technically the APOP was linked to the spawn pad, which... isn't ideal. However, after working with Zhoom we've changed the way that works so only the quest text will remain open, so you can read whatever quest the character has progressed, but the rest of their APOP isn't accessible. One release that comes to mind where this was most noticeable was the Wiggly Whompa release.

Void Star Scythe

The Void Star Scythe is in the Treasure Chests. A futuristic weapon made for harvesting kills off your foes!

New Promo Item: Azure and Veridian Star Scythes

The Azure Star Scythe will be awarded to any player who makes an upgrade purchase during the month of May. This includes not only Dragon Crystals but also any Guardian package and the Starter Bundle. Guardians will receive a variant known as the Veridian Star Scythe at no additional cost. In addition to both weapons, each promo will come with an additional house item to hang your fancy weapon off in your home. Simply head over to the Guardian Tower and speak to Fortes after finishing your Guardian initiation. A friendly reminder that all Dragon Crystal packages have a 50% bonus on them!

May the Fourth Screenshot Contest

May the Fourth Screenshot Contest happening NOW! We'll be awarding 2 Grand Prizes, one for best Screenshot and one for best Sandbox Housing build! Contest ends this Sunday, May 11th. Contest deets here.
