Wanna break the game… on purpose?

Calling all heroes, testers, and curious catgirls — and catboys too, no judgement. Do you want to be one of the first to explore fresh features, fearsome foes, and newly-forged maps ~before~ they go live? Then prepare yourself for the Public Test Realm, our magical, mysterious, and oftentimes messy secret testing server that you are cordially invited to!

What is the PTR?

The Public Test Realm — PTR for short — is many, many things:

A separate version of AdventureQuest 3D for testing cool new stuff
Not part of the live game, so it's okay if it breaks (and oh, it will break, trust me!)
Uses a temporary copy of your character — your real game stays safe and untouched, thank goodness
Expect wild new experiments so we can see what works… and, more importantly, what doesn’t
Frequent restarts, weird bugs, and delightful chaos
Progress resets happen often… because science
What happens on PTR stays on PTR — nothing is “saved” to your main account / character, other than the priceless feedback and bug reports you share with our dev team
You can create a new character on PTR, or even spend your DCs if you want! Nothing from PTR affects your real game progress nor currency — everything gets wiped from PTR, so you can freely play around without fear of messing up your real game + character(s)!

Steam Users: How to Join the PTR

Steam is the *easiest* way to get access to the Public Test Realm. Even I could do it, and here I am thinking Python is a danger noodle instead a programming language (or so I’m told 🤷‍♀️). It’s actually super-duper easy to set up PTR, and I even added pretty pictures to guide you!

Open Steam
Click LIBRARY
Right-click AdventureQuest 3D
Select Properties… at the bottom
On the left side, click Betas
Choose publictest - PTR from the dropdown next to Beta Participation
Let AQ3D update like magic
You should see AdventureQuest 3D [publictest] on the left; when clicked, the main screen should say SELECTED VERSION publictest next to the green PLAY button
Click PLAY to be teleported into the PTR game version
At the title screen, click the gear icon on the top left screen and select Clear Cache. This is super important to do after switching between the real live game and PTR versions!

And there ya have it, heroes! Welcome to the PTR! You’re in, and you’re even more awesome than before. And be sure to report any bugs you find using the in-game Repot Bug option — it’s literally 1 click away in the main menu.

When you’re ready to return back to the real game:

Go back to your Steam Library
Right click on AdventureQuest 3D
Select Properties…
Click Betas
Choose None from the dropdown
AQ3D magically reverts back to the real game version
Click PLAY button
On the title screen, Clear Cache again using that lil gear fella
Voila! Sign in as usual
Battle on the live game servers again!

Android Users: the PTR .APK

Wanna playtest on your phone? You brave, brave soul.

First, uninstall AQ3D from your Android device – sacrilege, I know

Install the .APK and explore the AQ3D PTR

Remember: never download an AQ3D .APK from other sites, unless you want spyware, account theft, or a cursed virus dragon. Trust me… you don't.

Uninstall the AQ3D .APK
Re-install AdventureQuest 3D from the Google Play Store

Congratulations! You’re now officially part of our elite testers! You can hop between the live game & PTR versions whenever you want, although the PTR is only available sporadically (so when it ~is~ there, be sure to check it out). Come on over and join the dev team as we test new features, squash bugs, and make AQ3D even more awesome in the process.

We truly appreciate your courage, curiosity, and chaos-tolerance. Now get in there and make us proud — or, at the very least, break as many things as you can!
